Over the years, I'v had the privilege of visiting numerous dojos across Japan.  From local city clubs and elementary programs to middle school, high school, college and even professional teams, each dojo showcases the depth and tradition of judo.

(2025 Summer Judo Camp training with local dojo's and Slovakian National Team)

The 2026 Japan Judo Training Camp is a 10-day international training experience designed specifically for athletes ages 12 and under, taking place from August 1–10, 2026. The trip includes a 2-day judo clinic as part of the overall program.

Athletes will train in respected Japanese dojos with a focus on fundamentals, movement, discipline, and age-appropriate instruction, while being supervised at all times by experienced coaches and chaperones to ensure a safe and supportive environment.

In addition to training, participants will experience Japanese judo culture firsthand through special visits, including the Kodokan, the birthplace of judo, as well as the Kusakura store for custom-embroidered judo gis, the Mizuno store, and a guest appearance by Akimoto, owner of Kimono Fighter, who will be offering his judo gis during the trip. Cultural learning and group activities are woven throughout the experience, helping athletes grow both on and off the mat.

This camp is designed to support athletic development, confidence, independence, and respect—giving young judoka a meaningful and motivating international experience.

(2024 Training at Asahi dojo)

This camp is designed for athletes ages 12 and under who are beginner to intermediate judoka with a basic understanding of judo. Participants should be able to follow instructions, train respectfully in a group setting, and participate in daily training and cultural activities. This experience is best suited for young athletes who are physically prepared for an active schedule, demonstrate good sportsmanship, and are eager to learn both on and off the mat. Families should be comfortable with their child traveling internationally under coach supervision.

For families flying with the group, we will be arriving at Haneda Airport. I will lead the group from the airport to the hotel where we will be staying.
If you are flying separately, Haneda Airport is recommended, as it offers convenient access to Yokohama via a single direct train.

Families are free to book whichever flight works best for them. Many choose to take the same flight as the group leader, and flight details will be shared once booked.
If you are flying from another state, you are not required to travel to Washington first unless you wish to join the group flight.

Most places in Japan accept credit cards. However, it is recommended to carry some cash for smaller shops, vendors, or certain locations.

Suica transportation cards will be provided for all participants this year. The cards can be used on trains, buses, and at many stores and vending machines throughout Japan. Families can easily reload the cards with additional funds at station kiosks as needed.

We recommend bringing two judo gi, as the weather in August is typically very hot and humid.
